costumes

As you can see for costume Samir and I used costume which seemed very much foreign. With the long sleeved white top and the checked summer shirt presenting a character from another country. The necklace is the noticeable thing in terms of the costume as it is a Caribbean necklace with a sharks tooth as the pendant. My hair is long and very messy, and the beard is shaped in a different way, as I have a full beard but a slim moustache, maintaining the theory that I come from another country and my style is very different.

digipak analysis

The Name of the artist is clearly seen and is the largest font on the front cover, with the name of the album underneath again in large font. The face of the artist is the predominant figure on the album cover, establishing who it is.

The back of the album contains the tracklist and the labels which the artist is signed to along with a barcode and the rights. The font used it simple and clear. Also the design in the background really complements the name of the album. This is really creative as you can see it is raining in the background, and the name of the album is 'The Calm Before The Storm'.

The CD again is amazing with the same cover as the front of the album, again establishing who the artist is and the name of the album.

Conventions of a Music Video

The conventions of a music video vary according to the genre of the song. The conventions are important to fit in with the mood of the song and the narrative.

Hip-Hop/Rap Conventions :
 - Usually, big expensive cars, big mansions, a vast amount of attractive women who are dressed in mainly bikinis.
- These videos are to show success and for artists to flaunt their money in any way possible. Good examples of this are artists like 50 Cent, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Birdman.
- Alcohol and drugs are nearly always present in rap videos. Close up shots are used to focus on jewellery such as chains, watches, rings, glasses etc. Wiz Khalifa is nearly always shown with drugs in his videos.

video genre

Animated Video - Features animated images in which the band or artist may or may not appear.

Gag Video
 - Relies on visual tricks and effects.

Dance Video - Features dancing, usually choreographed.

Narrative Video - Tells a story with a beginning, middle and an end.

Performance Video - Focuses on the artist or band performing a song, this could be in a live session or in an actual performance.

Con.cept Video - Centres on a specific idea or concept, it never portrays performances, only stories or images.
Club / Party Video - Set mainly or entirely in a night club or at a party.

Film Clip Video - Created when a song is featured on a film soundtrack and contains clips from the film

Evolution of Jay Sean

Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, better known by his stage name Jay Sean, is a British singer-songwriter, rapper, beatboxer and record producer was born on the 26th March 1981 in Harlesden, Brent, London, England.

Jay Sean's talent was noticed from the young age of 11 when
he and his cousin Pritpal Rupra formed a hip hop duo named "Compulsive Disorder". He attended Latymer Upper School and completed his GCSE's with "straight A's" and shortly after completed him A Levels and attended Queen Mary University to study Medicine and Dentistry. He dropped out when he felt his heart was not content and pursued his dream in music.

1st Album Me Against Myself (2004)

2nd Album My Own Way (2008)

3rd Album All or Nothing (2009)

Jay Sean in 2012
It is clear to see the transition and evolution of Jay Sean physically and visually, from the stereotypical slim, spiky haired Asian boy from West London, to a more sophisticated, broad and attractive young man. They was much curiosity that surrounded his image and how it was a barrier to his success, and Jay Sean being the intelligent young man he was, understood the music game and played along and changed his image to make himself more presentable. This was a serious factor in his success and the transition and "new" Jay Sean caught the attention of Birdman and Slim, the founders of Cash Money Records.

Change Of Plan!

Samir and I have chosen to change our whole project due to the fact that we feel the song would be too boring and not that effective. We are now changing our song to Manu Chao - Bongo Bong.

Lyrics :

Mama was queen of the mambo
Papa was king of the Congo
Deep down in the jungle
I start bangin' my first bongo
Every monkey'd like to be
In my place instead of me
Cause I'm the king of bongo, baby
I'm the king of bongo bong

I went to the big town
Where there is a lot of sound
From the jungle to the city
Looking for a bigger crown
So I play my boogie
For the people of big city
But they don't go crazy
When I'm bangin' in my boogie

I'm the (king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
Hear me when I come baby
(King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)

Nobody'd like to be in my place instead of me
Cause nobody go crazy when I'm bangin' on my boogie
I'm a king without a crown hanging loose in a big town
But I'm the king of bongo baby I'm the king of bongo bong
(King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
Hear me when I come, baby,
(king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)

They say that I'm a clown
Making too much dirty sound
They say there is no place for little monkey in this town
Nobody'd like to be in my place instead of me
Cause nobody go crazy when I'm bangin' on my boogie

I'm the (king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
Hear me when I come, baby
(King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
Hear me when I come

Bangin' on my bongo all that swing belongs to me
I'm so happy there's nobody in my place instead of me
I'm a king without a crown hanging loose in a big town
I'm the king of bongo baby I'm the king of bongo bong
(King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
Hear me when I come, baby
(king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong)
