Conventions of a Music Video

The conventions of a music video vary according to the genre of the song. The conventions are important to fit in with the mood of the song and the narrative.

Hip-Hop/Rap Conventions :
 - Usually, big expensive cars, big mansions, a vast amount of attractive women who are dressed in mainly bikinis.
- These videos are to show success and for artists to flaunt their money in any way possible. Good examples of this are artists like 50 Cent, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Birdman.
- Alcohol and drugs are nearly always present in rap videos. Close up shots are used to focus on jewellery such as chains, watches, rings, glasses etc. Wiz Khalifa is nearly always shown with drugs in his videos.
